Comparative Analyzes of Parameters Extraction Models for Photovoltaic Modules Using Single Diode Model

Modeling photovoltaic modules using electrical circuit models is crucial for accurately predicting power generation in PV systems. The primary challenge involves determining the electrical parameters of these models to accurately forecast PV behavior under varying weather conditions throughout the system’s operation. This study compares the Villalva, De Soto, California Energy Commission, and Sandia Single Diode Models—the latter having been utilized by PVSYST since version 6—for establishing the initial electrical parameters, according to the method. The parameters determined by the first three models are recalculated for different values of irradiance and temperature using the De Soto physical model. To validate the models’ simulations, real-world energy generation data from a PV system from the west of São Paulo state, for the year 2020 was analyzed. This data includes solar irradiance in the plane of array (POA) and PV module temperatures, monitored by local sensors.
