Design and Construction of an Internal Combustion Engine Go-Kart as an Educational Tool

This paper presents the design and construction of a Go-Kart powered by an internal combustion engine, developed as an educational tool to enhance hands-on learning in mechanical engineering. The project aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of automotive principles and mechanical systems. During the design stage, extensive considerations were given to ergonomics, safety, and performance. Advanced Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, specifically 3D Autodesk Inventor, was used to create detailed and accurate models of the Go-Kart chassis and components. Besides, iterative design processes, including stress analysis, ensured the structural integrity and durability of the chassis, with a particular focus on the Von Mises stress analysis to validate the safety factor. Results shows that the Go-Kart met all design specifications and performed reliably. This project not only proves the feasibility of constructing a functional Go-Kart but also significantly contribute to the educational development of students. It facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration, applies method design theories, and provides valuable hands-on experience in both virtual and real-world settings. The integration of practical projects into the engineering curriculum has shown to increase student engagement and interest in STEM fields. The paper concludes with an analysis of the project outcomes, highlighting the educational impact and practical skills gained.
