Integration of Lego Mindstorms EV3 and MATLAB/Simulink in the Teaching of Robotics and Automation in Manufacturing Processes

Currently, one of the problems at the high school level is the lack of knowledge about pursuing a specific career, especially for those interested in the field of electronics and automation, which involves robotics and process control. Due to this lack of knowledge, there is often personal demotivation and dropout from the career. The objective of this work is to use the Lego Mindstorm EV3 in teaching robotics and automation in manufacturing processes by implementing a color sorter conveyor belt using Simulink. For the construction of this system, a total of 413 pieces from the kit including sensors and motors were required, which was carried out in three stages: construction stage, programming stage, and communication stage. Additionally, to strengthen technical skills and engineering and programming concepts, a process guide was implemented so that students can step by step implement the color sorter conveyor belt system.
