AI is rapidly evolving. Could AI achieve superintelligence? The danger of superintelligent AI is a common theme in movies. In the science fiction/drama WarGames, made in 1983, an AI military computer almost starts a thermonuclear war, thwarted by a youthful Matthew Broderick. If AI exceeds human intelligence, it could become an existential threat to humanity. This view has been expressed by many experts in AI. Curiously, some who are most concerned about the dangers of superintelligent AI are the same ones who deny that LLMs are intelligent.1
