Wireless Control of 4 D.O.F. Robotic Arm using EMG Muscle Sensors.

Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic technique used to measure the electrical activity of muscles. This activity is generated by the contraction of muscle fibers and can be used to assess the health and function of muscles and the nerves that control them. EMG is being explored for a variety of new applications, such as controlling prosthetics and robotic limbs, and as a tool for human-computer interaction. Consequently, there is now interest in this particular field of study due to the recent trend of building myoelectric devices. However, using the EMG technology and the Myoelectric devices to control robotic arms is quite a tedious task as handling the EMG signals is not always easy because of the ambient and inherent noises. Since the preparation of the electromyography will impact the signal output, greater care must be always taken in choosing the right EMG Muscle Sensors, and muscle groups, positioning the electrodes, and maintaining the surrounding environment. In the proposed system, complete wireless control of a 4 DOF robotic arm (consisting of 4 servo motors), which was indeed the main goal of our project, is achieved using EMG Muscle Sensors, RF-433 Transmitter-Receiver Module, the Arduino UNO R3, etc. By using the above components, we were able to successfully control and move the robotic arm as per our hand movements, i.e.; proportionally to EMG Signals generated by the movement or the contraction and relaxation of our forearm muscles. In the further parts of the paper, methodology; wherein the information about the working of our system, points related to the development of the arm, connections, circuit diagram, flowcharts, etc., along with results and other discussions have been mentioned.
