Finite-time Frequency Control of an Islanded Microgrid System

With the increasing use of microgrids in power systems, intelligent control and optimization are also needed to ensure the system’s capability to maintain frequency balance, even in severe disturbances and unpredictable load variations. This paper attempted to design a fixed-time terminal sliding mode controller (TSMC) to uphold grid stability subject to matched/mismatched uncertainties. The global exponential stability (GES) of the developed control system has been studied in-depth by applying the Lyapunov theorem. An extensive comparative study has been presented to explore the proficiency of the proposed controller over the sliding mode controller (SMC) and integral sliding mode controller (ISMC). The effectiveness of the controller has been demonstrated regarding fast state convergence, weaker chattering, and quick suppression of unknown disturbances. The simulations were performed on MATLAB.
