Studying the Surgical Management and Clinical Features of Incisional Hernia

A common post-operative complication after abdominal surgery is an incisional hernia, which occurs between 5 and 11% of the time. In the present study, 60 patients were taken up to study various forms of presentation of incisional hernia. They were then taken up for surgery. The data obtained from history was tabulated in forms of age, sex, occupation, preoperative combeites, smoking habit, history of previous surgery (including type, incision, elective or emergency, complications if any), type of hernia surgery performed, pos operative complications. The data was then analyzed and discussed. The factors which may cause incisional hernia were evident. This helps us draw conclusions regarding etiological factors causing the hernia and thus further pre-operative and surgical decisions can be taken for prevention of future incisional hernias. The surgical and post-operative data helps us take informed decisions on what type of surgery should be used and helps us prevent post op complications.
