Analyzing the Role of Serum Albumin Level for Post-Operative Outcome of Laparotomy

A total of 100 individuals were involved in the trial, with 85 of them having hypoalbuminemia. It was also shown that 66% of patients undergoing immediate exploratory laparotomy were men, whereas 34% were females. Serum albumin levels were measured before to surgery. Males had an 81.82% prevalence of hypoalbuminemia, whereas females had a 91.18% prevalence. Hypoalbuminemia was more common in older age groups. Out of 30 patients aged 51-60 years, 29 (96.67%) had hypoalbuminemia. In the 18–30-year age group, hypoalbuminemia was detected in 16 (69.57%) of the 23 individuals. In our study, the mean albumin level was 2.79g/dl. The most prevalent reason for emergency exploratory laparotomy was hollow viscus perforation (49), which was followed by intestinal blockage (41) and hemoperitoneum (10). The group with the lowest albumin level, i.e., 2.5g/dl, had the highest rate of problems, with 28 (96.55%) of 29 patients experiencing difficulties. The group of patients including albumin levels more than 3.5g/dl had the lowest rate of problems, with 4 (26.67%) of 15 patients experiencing difficulties. Post-operative complications were found in 60 patients, which was considered significant, with 51 patients having surgical site infection, 7 having wound dehiscence, and 1 having anastomotic leak and 1 having a ruptured abdomen. Complications occurred in 65.88% of individuals with hypoalbuminemia and 26.87% of participants with normal blood albumin levels.
