Influence of Channel Modeling and Atmospheric Conditions on the Reliability and Capacity of V2V-VLC Systems

This paper examines the influence of channel modeling and atmospheric weather conditions on the reliability and capacity of vehicle-to-vehicle visible light communication V2V-VLC systems. Through an evaluation of V2V-VLC systems using various channel models (Lambertian, linear, exponential, and comprehensive) and diverse weather conditions (clear, rain, moderate fog, and thick fog), this study aims to provide valuable insights into their impact on system performance. The findings enable the design and optimization of V2V-VLC systems to suit different operational environments and scenarios. Results indicate that, at shorter distances, the Lambertian model tends to overestimate performance compared to the comprehensive model, while both the Lambertian and linear models tend to overestimate realistic results at longer distances. In contrast, the exponential model consistently matches realistic results across all distances under the assumption of perfect alignment between the vehicles. Furthermore, the results highlight the significant impact of fog weather conditions on system performance.
