Experimental Evaluation of Iridium Performance under Varying Weather Conditions and Elevation Angles

This paper analyzes the impact of weather conditions and elevation angles on the performance of the Iridium Low Earth Orbit satellite network, using real experimental data. The dataset, available on Kaggle, records link reliability during various weather events and satellite positions, providing a valuable resource for modeling satellite communication in Internet of Remote Things applications. The study highlights how weather and elevation angles affect link stability, offering recommendations to optimize transmission schedules. These findings aim to improve energy efficiency and extend battery life for IoRT devices through smarter scheduling based on environmental conditions and satellite positions.
