Application of Optimization Techniques for Frequency Stability Improvement in Microgrid

The paper presents adaptive virtual control strategy for inertia support in the present power network with increased penetration of RES. Owing to low inertia response capabilities of RES frequency degradation manifested. To address abovementioned challenge, modified PSO based PID controller is used to make the HESS participates in inertia support to enhance frequency response. Comparison between conventional PSO and modified PSO was carried out. Frequency is measured at PCC to achieve frequency nadir, settling time and ROCOF after each disturbance.Finaly, simulation of microgrid was carried out in MATLAB to verified control strategy effectiveness.
