Performances comparison of Reluctance Machines Energized Bipolar and Unipolar Sinusoidal Current

In this paper, SRM, DC-VRM, and VRM with same pole-slot combinations of 8 poles/12 slots and 10 poles/12 slots are designed, the mechanism of generating torque in the energization by the sinusoidal current with and without DC offset is analyzed by Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Through these analyses, the structure that satisfies high torque and the excitation methods suitable for each speed range in reluctance motors with applying sinusoidal current will be clarified.
