PKI Implementation for the Cybersecurity of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructures

In this paper we describe a public key infrastructure implementation in the context of electric vehicle charging infrastructures. We give a general overview of applicable public key infrastructure architectures and we present the test environment which is under development to implement the telecontrol communication between an electric vehicle charging infrastructure and a remote operator in charge of providing flexibility services. This test environment is designed to be compliant with the publicly available specification “Charging Infrastructure Controller (CIR) for electric vehicles” and is adopted in a trial to verify implementations interoperability, which involves devices constructors and remote operators. In particular we focus on the cybersecurity requirements which rely upon the services provided by a public key infrastructure, digital certificates and cryptography for the protection of telecontrol data communication.
