Advancing Robotics with an Interactive and Musical Humanoid Robot Based on the InMoov Project

Humanoid robots are expected to change healthcare, education, and entertainment as they allow for natural interaction. Due to their complexity, however, the development is challenging and the progress is slow. This paper demonstrates how the InMoov robot as a modular 3D-printable open-source platform pushes humanoid robotics forward. The key example applications are the person detection system based on an RGB-D camera and machine learning for dynamic response and piano playing using force-sensitive feedback for accurate control. These examples will show the flexibility and potential of InMoov in pushing innovation within humanoid robotics and engaging in human-robot interaction.
