A Simple Solution to Enhance the Bandwidth and Return Loss of DR Loaded Monopole Antenna

A design solution for dielectric resonator loaded monopole antenna is proposed for small-size and broadband impedance matching. The geometric parameters of the antenna are optimized for the antenna enclosed in a spherical radome. It is shown that better return-loss and wider bandwidth can be obtained if the diameter of the monopole antenna is reduced and if the part of the monopole antenna above the ring dielectric resonator is covered by a PTFE cylindrical section. The experimental frequency bandwidth for 10 dB return loss is between 6.7 and 14.2 GHz, while the peak gain is equal to 4.2 dBi at 10 GHz.
