Matrix Pencil Based Estimation of Parameters in 2D for Non-collinear Uniform Linear Arrays

In this paper, we propose a novel two-dimensional direction of arrival estimation technique for sparse arrays. To this end, we estimate the 2D difference coarray corresponding to the radar’s sparse array. From this we select N non-collinear uniform linear arrays of length M which are translational invariant. State-of-the-art methods does not provide sufficient performance. Therefore, we use the matrix pencil method on azimuth and elevation directions, with delay compensation as an intermediate step to couple the solutions. The main advantage of the proposed method is that the number of elements used in the parameter estimation steps is maximised, resulting in better performance.
