Integrated Open Source Indoor Air Quality Monitoring Platform

In recent years, great importance has been given to monitoring indoor air quality. The aim is to encourage citizens to actively contribute to actions such as monitoring air quality in the area they live and work. Open-source software seems to be the solution to implement low-cost constructs, as it allows direct access and customization of software according to implementation needs and encourages participatory engagement between people with common concerns and shared goals and actions, such as indoor air quality in their homes. This paper presents the implementation of an open-source, integrated indoor air quality monitoring platform, which includes a low-cost indoor air quality station and an application server for data visualization. The components of the station are the TTGO@ESP32 as a processor, for air quality measurements the DFROBOT ENS160 sensor was used: index AQ (AQI), total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), carbon dioxide equivalent (eCO2), for microparticles the Plantower sensor PMS5003 was used, and a Bosch BME280 sensor was used for temperature and humidity measurements. The low-cost sensors present an affordable solution that covers real-time indoor air quality measurements with the best possible performance.
