Potential Assessment and Techno-economic Analysis of Concentrated Solar Power in Xizang Autonomous Region

With the steady advancement of China's "dual carbon goals", new energy sources are rapidly replacing traditional fossil fuels. Among these, concentrated solar power (CSP) generation has garnered significant attention due to its continuous, stable, and flexible power generation capabilities. CSP can reliably provide inertia support and spinning reserve services to the power system, and its thermal storage system allows for continuous and stable output around the clock. This makes it an ideal frequency and peak regulation power source in modern power systems. Xizang Autonomous Region, with its abundant solar resources and high demand for mining industry loads, is particularly suitable for large-scale CSP plant construction. This paper designs a geographic potential assessment method for CSP generation based on Geographic Information System (GIS) method and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technologies, constructs a levelized cost of energy (LCOE) calculation model for Xizang. Eventually this paper assesses the CSP potential of Xizang and makes a techno-economic analysis of CSP generation in the region. The results indicate that Xizang has very high potential for CSP generation and good economic viability. Furthermore, with the rapid iteration of CSP plant construction and generation technologies, Xizang's CSP potential can be further enhanced, and costs can be further reduced in the future.
