Enhancing Electric Vehicle Battery Life with Hybrid Energy Storage and Energy Management

People believe that electric vehicles (EVs) are the most realistic way to address environmental problems. However, these green car's significant issues include its limited battery life, size, expense, and autonomy. Supercapacitors (SC) offer energy performance that can overcome the constraints of batteries. Constructing a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) is one potential application for it. The Energy Management Strategy (EMS) in HESS is essential to guarantee the best possible allocation of energy. In this study, the iterative optimization process is used to get the optimal cut-off frequency. The Optimal-LPF (OLPF) uses three criteria which are delta battery State of Charge (delta-SoC), Battery Current Root Means Square (BCRMS), and battery equivalent full cycle. According to simulation tests, the HESS with OLPF can lower the BCRMS and Cycle for an actual drive cycle by up to 41.02% and 35.09%, respectively, as compared to a battery-only EV. On the other hand, the real-drive cycle improvement is 5.95% and 5.13%, respectively, compared to LPF -Ragone. It prolongs the life of batteries by reducing their load.
