Tuning of PID Controller for Unstable Time Delay Process with Multiple Constraints Using a Novel Modified Cuckoo Search Algorithm

Currently, the PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller parameters tuning method for unstable time delay process have not been studied intensively. Meanwhile, there is no a general tuning method for the unstable time delay process in the presence of multiple constraints. In the view of above situations, we firstly propose a novel modified cuckoo search (CS) algorithm for the unstable time delay process with multiple constraints. In the proposed algorithm, we apply the heavy-tailed t-distribution sequence to initialize the population. To further improve the search performance, the advantages of the particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm was adopted to optimize search strategy. By using these two improvements, the novel modified CS algorithm can provides more accurate PID parameter estimates. Simulation examples show that the proposed method is effective and has a wide applicability.
