Scenic-Spot Tourist-Flow Monitoring System Based on Embedded Microcontroller

This paper presents the design and implementation of a scenic-spot tourist-flow monitoring system. The system consists of a core embedded microcontroller subsystem and the OneNet platform. In the embedded microcontroller subsystem, the microcontroller chip (MCU), the human infrared sensing module, the WiFi module, and the OLED display screen module are designed and integrated together with the serial interface. The human infrared sensing module is designed to identify the number of the tourists entering and exiting the scenic areas. Then the real-time tourist number within the scenic areas is calculated and updated in the MCU. The tourist-flow data within different time periods can also be obtained. All the collected data is processed and uploaded to the OneNET platform based on the WiFi module. Finally, the real-time statistics of tourist number can be achieved and utilized to prevent the overcrowding from affecting the tourist experience, and to ensure the safety of the tourists. This design is beneficial for the smart tourism establishment, the reasonable allocation of tourism resources, and the improvement of the service quality.
