Design of PCB Transitions with Low Return Loss to Interface with Suspended Stripline up to 100 GHz

This paper presents an innovative design methodology to create compact and wide-band transitions to suspended stripline using a characteristic impedance profiling technique. This proposed approach allows for a smooth transition from a microstrip line to a suspended stripline line, covering frequencies from DC to 100 GHz. A comprehensive electromagnetic (EM) simulation was conducted and a return loss better than -15 dB was observed across the entire frequency range. Since the proposed technique is based on conductor tapering, it can also be adapted to create a transition to interface with other suspended structures.
