2-D Phased Array Control Circuit for 8-bit Infinite Phase Shifters with 1/8 Compressed Control Bus

This paper presents 2-dimensional (2-D) 4 x 4 phased array control circuit for 8-bit infinite phase shifters. By calculating the control words to the phase shifters using full adders at the edges of the phase shifters, it is possible to steer the beam in two dimensions simply by inputting the horizontal and vertical phase difference words. The prototype control circuit with the infinite phase shifter generated phase shifts of 3.5 GHz continuous wave (CW) independently and arbitrarily in the horizontal and vertical directions.
