Performance Analysis of DC-DC Boost Converter with High Gain

The conventional DC-DC boost converter faces several limitations, including a discontinuous output current, low voltage gain ratio, and potential issues like reverse recovery in the output diode, which can pose risks to the power switch. Additionally, the voltage stress is notably high concerning the output voltage. To overcome these challenges, a non-isolated DC-DC boost converter with high gain is essential. This advanced topology achieves significant voltage gain while ensuring continuous power flow at both the input and output stages. It also reduces semiconductor voltage stress compared to conventional boost converters relative to the output voltage. Notably, this converter is characterized by its simplicity and cost-effectiveness, using solely one power switch regulated via pulse-width modulation (PWM). It offers particular benefits for photovoltaic (PV) panels by maintaining continuous input current and for fuel cells by providing continuous output current. Theoretical equations derived from this converter are validated through simulations conducted in MATLAB/Simulink.
