A theoretical study of semiconductor integrated etalon interference lasers - Part II: Spectral characteristics

We present a theoretical study, in two parts, of semiconductor interferometric lasers having a resonator with curved and straight segments. In this second part, the scattering matrix formalism is incorporated into the resonance amplifier model to give an accurate, multilateral mode spectral analysis of the interferometric laser for uniform as well as separate pumping. The theoretical results prove the possibility to achieve highly pure longitudinal mode spectra, with an interference effect, caused primarily by the participation of higher order lateral modes into the resonance process. Longitudinal mode suppression ratios up to 30 dB are obtainable with curved segments having radii in the range
100-150 \mu
m. Further increase of the suppression ratio can be achieved by choosing smaller curvature radii to obtain shorter cavity lengths.
