Kinetic analysis of photolysis of O

:He mixtures by UV light has been studied. Dependence of O

Δ) yield on partial pressures, flashlamp intensity, and duration was investigated. Results indicate sufficient O

Δ) yield for operation of a high-power atomic iodine laser on the I*(

P_{1/2}
)
\underrightarrow{1.31 \mu}

p_{3/2}
) transition.
