BER Performance of Polar-coded FBMC-OQAM and OFDM over Rician and Rayleigh Flat Fading Channels

Polar-coded multicarrier modulation schemes, which are relatively new in the realm of digital communication, are the subject of this study. This article specifically examines two multicarrier modulation schemes: offset quadrature amplitude modulation-based filter bank multicarrier (FBMCOQAM) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Nevertheless, there is little study on the performance of polar-coded multicarrier systems, especially for FBMCOQAM, or it is not comprehensive for OFDM. This study’s methodology comprises using MATLAB software to analyze the system error rate of polar-coded multicarrier systems in the presence of two realistic channel environments: Rayleigh and Rician. In the presence of fading, an extensive bit error rate (BER) analysis has been carried out. The simulation results demonstrate that using Polar codes for both OFDM and FBMCOQAM significantly improves BER. It has also been demonstrated that using random code interleavers can enhance the error-correcting capabilities of Polar codes. In particular, additional coding gain of up to 2 dB can be obtained in fading channels by employing random code interleavers. The significance of this research is that it contributes to the development of polar-coded multicarrier modulation systems and provides a more comprehensive understanding of their performance in Rician and Rayleigh channel environments. The findings of this research suggest that polar-coded multicarrier modulation systems have promising potential for future wireless communication systems.
