Easy-Hardware-Implementation Algorithm of Carrier and Sampling Frequency Offset Estimation in OFDM Systems

This paper analyzes the impact of residual carrier frequency offset and sampling frequency offset on the performance of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems. Additionally, it proposes a joint carrier and sampling frequency offset estimation algorithm in the frequency domain. The algorithm is designed for easy implementation in hardware, aiming to reduce both the utilization of hardware resources and calculation delays compared to estimation algorithms using the least squares method. Simulations were conducted based on the IEEE 802.11a standard, along with hardware implementations on the field programmable gate array to validate the algorithm. The results of actual system tests demonstrate that the algorithm effectively compensates phase offset, ensuring compliance with standard requirements.
