Design of Controllable Line Commutated Converter Valve Control System

The Controllable Line Commutated Converter (CLCC) plays a crucial role in High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems, offering enhanced controllability and efficiency compared to traditional Line Commutated Converters (LCC). This paper presents a comprehensive design method for the CLCC valve control system. The proposed design covers key aspects including the control principles of the CLCC, the advantages and disadvantages of CLCC compared to LCC and Voltage Source Converters (VSC), the implementation of the valve control system, and improvements and implementation of the new generation of thyristor drive units. Simulation studies and synthetic circuit experiments demonstrate that the proposed design of the CLCC valve control system performs effectively and robustly under various operating conditions.
