Power Management in Grid-Connected SPV-DSTATCOM Systems with Metaheuristic Optimization

The Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) system plays a crucial role in optimizing reactive power compensation and enhancing voltage stability within distribution networks. Challenges such as inefficient reactive power compensation and poor voltage regulation often lead to grid instability. Conventional control strategies may struggle to adapt to varying solar power generation and load conditions, exacerbating these issues. So, this research proposes integrating a Cuckoo Search Optimization (CSO) Controller with the DSTATCOM system to address these challenges. The methodology involves optimizing control parameters to reduce harmonic distortions and improve overall system performance. The proposed system includes a Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) array, a DC-DC boost converter, and a Voltage Storage Controller (VSC) to facilitate effective grid integration. The Point of Common Coupling (PCC) ensures a stable connection to the grid while managing dynamic load variations. Simulation results demonstrate that the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of the proposed system is reduced to 1.42%, indicating substantial improvements in reactive power compensation and voltage regulation. The integration of the CSO Controller with the DSTATCOM system offers a more efficient solution for reactive power compensation and voltage stability. The improved performance and reduced harmonic distortions underscore the effectiveness of this approach in advancing grid reliability and efficiency.
