Research and Analysis of the Execution of Different Types of SQL Queries with Impala in Cloudera in Education

The development of IoT technologies, the drive towards digitization in most spheres of life, the generation of data from sensors and devices in huge volumes makes knowing the tools and techniques for processing and analyzing big data a truly relevant and modern direction. The Hadoop ecosystem combined with Cloudera and its resources provide a powerful environment that is at the same time very suitable for the student learning process. This article describes our experience to provide students with the opportunity to explore different types of queries to different datasets in one of Cloudera’s editors - Impala. The possibilities that the environment provides in real work for conducting the research and the metrics and characteristics that can be compared are described. This research broadens the students’ practical knowledge and gives them the opportunity to try working with big data in a real cluster.
