AIoT-Based Cybernetic Framework for Environmental Risk Management in Mining Regions

This paper introduces an AIoT-Based Cybernetic Framework for Environmental Risk Management, leveraging the existing public lighting infrastructure in pilot municipalities. The framework integrates environmental sensors within the public lighting systems, aligning with the smart cities concept to provide real-time environmental and climatic data through an open data platform. This innovative approach aims to address the significant vulnerabilities posed by open-pit coal mining operations in the region. Utilizing the Viable System Model (VSM), the framework ensures a comprehensive, adaptable, and sustainable method for environmental risk management. Real-time monitoring and predictive analytics enable proactive mitigation of environmental risks and compliance with regulatory standards. By promoting transparency and stakeholder engagement through the open data platform, the framework supports sustainable development goals. This study reviews traditional and modern methods of environmental monitoring, highlighting their limitations and the potential of AIoT technologies to overcome these challenges. The proposed AIoT-based framework aims to provide robust solutions for effective environmental risk management, enhancing the resilience and sustainability of mining regions. The findings underscore the critical role of AIoT in transforming environmental monitoring practices, particularly in regions with high vulnerability due to intensive mining activities, thereby contributing to the broader vision of smart cities.
