Abstract:
The increasing adoption of EVs as a sustainable transportation solution has arisen the need of research on performance enhancement of energy storage technologies. Li-Ion batteries play a critical role in driving the widespread acceptance of EV systems. Li-Ion batteries need protection to control overcharged /undercharged condition which improves the life span and efficiency of the battery. Therefore, a suitable control method is needed to improve the protection of the battery. The objective of the paper is to analyse the performance of Li-Ion batteries energy management system by monitoring and balancing the cell voltage. Four control methods are used: Discharging Method using MOSFET, Constant Current method, Constant Voltage method and Constant Current Constant Voltage method. The control strategies on Li-Ion battery banks are implemented using MATLAB Simulink. The CCCV method demonstrates proficient control over battery charging, facilitating a smooth transition from Constant Current to Constant Voltage to prevent overcharging.
