A Novel Three-Level Dual-Output Active Neutral-Point Clamped (ANPC) Converter

A novel three-level dual output active neutral-point clamped (TLDO-ANPC) converter topology has been proposed in this article. The proposed topology is simple, with fewer devices than two individual ANPC converters supplying two three-phase loads. The TLDO-ANPC converter significantly improves the operating boundary region compared with other dual-output three-phase converters. In-phase disposition pulse width modulation (IPD-PWM) is used to operate the proposed converter. Two individual loads are operated with common and different frequencies with varying modulation indices and phase shifts to ensure the converter performance. This compact TLDO-ANPC can supply two three-phase loads or a six-phase machine, irrespective of phase shift/difference between its two three-phase sets. The switching states of the converter are analyzed for current paths, output voltage levels, and blocking voltage across semiconductors to ensure its safe operation. The developed IPD-PWM balances the dc-link capacitors without requiring a complex control. A three-phase laboratory prototype is built, and the experimental results are provided. The simulation and experimental results support the theoretical analysis.
