A Hybrid Water Pumping System Based on Modified Q-Z Source TPC with a Battery Assisted PV Source

A hybrid PV battery Water Pumping System (WPS) based on a q-Z source-based three-port converter (TPC) is proposed in this paper. The q-Z source-based TPC is a high-gain non-isolated three-port converter that can interface both PV and battery to provide power to a load. The proposed hybrid WPS can operate during both day and night hours. The proposed WPS uses three-phase IM as the pumping motor, the speed of which is controlled using SVPWM technique which helps in improving the dynamic performance of the system. The TPC reduces the number of stages of power conversion and thus makes the system more efficient. In addition the q-Z source-based TPC allows both sources to feed power to the load individually, and together, which is one of the drawbacks of the conventional TPC-based WPS. The results are verified by designing the system in MATLAB simulation.
