Voltage Regulation of PV Integrated Cuk Converter Using Model-Based Predictive Control

This paper presents a method for regulating the output voltage of a photovoltaic integrated DC/DC Cuk converter through model-based predictive control. The control design is accomplished based on the small-signal description derived from a nonlinear mathematical model of the Cuk converter. The deviations in the output voltages of the Cuk converter are predicted based on the described small-signal model. A cost function is formulated by combining the predicted deviations in the output voltages over the prediction horizon and the minimum control effort over the control horizon. A model-based control scheme determines the optimal duty cycle in the discrete-time domain. Simulation results illustrate the efficacy of the proposed control on the photovoltaic integrated DC/DC Cuk converter under varying environmental conditions.
