Scaling of Single-Mode Surface-Emitting Lasers with a Perturbed Dirac-Cone

We show that there is a tight upper bound in the quality-factor differential between modes in a planar optical device, which can be achieved in a perturbed Dirac cone band structure. This result points to a new pathway in the scaling of photonic-crystal surface-emitting lasers.
