Nanotech-Assisted Wireless Gas Monitoring

Living and working in close proximity to hazardous gases poses significant risks to human lives, property, and the environment, necessitating vigilant monitoring and effective management. Traditional methods rely on strategically placed wired sensors and portable devices for employees, but dense deployments hinder mobility. To overcome this, we propose integrating nanotechnology and wireless sensor networks. Nanotechnology enables the development of small, highly sensitive gas sensors, while wireless sensor networks offer high spatio-temporal resolution, in-network processing. Our experience in monitoring ammonia with a wireless sensor network, comprising specialized and intermediate nodes, demonstrates the potential for more efficient and flexible solutions in hazardous environments. This innovative project introduces a cutting-edge system for monitoring toxic gases by integrating nanotechnology and wireless sensor networks. Utilizing Arduino microcontrollers, an LCD display, MQ2, MQ135, and MQ6 gas sensors, a buzzer, GSM module, and DHT11 humidity and temperature sensor, the system achieves real-time detection and alerting. The Arduino processes sensor data, displaying gas concentration levels on the LCD, triggering a buzzer, and activating the GSM module for immediate alerts in the presence of hazardous gases. The wireless sensor network ensures scalability and remote monitoring, making it well-suited for industrial, environmental, and safety applications. The supplementary DHT11 sensor provides additional data on humidity and temperature, contributing to comprehensive environmental analysis.
