Performance of Dry Powder Inhaler - Review

Various studies and techniques employed to improve the delivery, design, or efficiency of Dry Power Inhaler (DPIs). These include the use of particle technical approach, CFD, numerical simulations, biophysical lung models, along with the Discrete Element Method to optimize carrier-based DPIs, predict the deposition of inhaled medication, and determine the impact of various factors such as mouth-throat geometries, impact velocity, impact angle, and carrier spin. Additionally, the use of different carrier compositions, such as spray-dried, milled, and sieved lactose, is explored to improve the flow characteristics of DPI formulations. The ultimate goal is to achieve maximum lung delivery and accurate deposition of medication in individual patients, taking into account pharmaceutical particle technology.
