Development and Evaluation of a VR-based Driving Test Simulator

This research shows the construction and assessment of a Virtual Reality (VR)-based driving test simulator designed to improve the evaluation of driving skill. Many often, traditional driving tests overlook to sufficiently handle challenging real-world situations and driver behavior. The project developed a simulator with a sophisticated 360-degree immersive virtual city to overcome these constraints. Based on criteria including track completion time, distance covered and encounters with key road objects including speed breakers, traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, the simulator scores users. Custom-built hardware like a 3D steering wheel and pressure sensor-equipped pedal boxes integrates extremely nicely with the VR application via Bluetooth, coupled to a mobile smartphone kept in a head-mounted display. Reflecting real-time user input guarantees via this setup a realistic and engaging driving experience. The findings show that the VRbased simulator presents a whole and interesting evaluation of driving abilities, thereby enhancing road safety and driver readiness.
