3D Rotation-driven Reconfigurable Holography via Bilayer Spatially Cascaded Metasurfaces

Metasurface-based three-dimensional (3D) reconfigurable vectorial holography is regarded as a remarkable platform for large-capacity information storage, imaging devices, and encryption, which not only manipulates the complex amplitude of the holograms but also at-will tailors its polarization in the 3D space. However, designing economical and convenient 3D reconfigurable vectorial holography is still a great challenge. Here, we propose a rotation-driven reconfigurable holographic scheme via spatially cascaded phase-only metasurface (PM) and birefringent metasurface (BM), which can achieve reconfigurable vectorial holography in the 3D space. The PM is located on the front side of the BM, which serves to control the state of wavefront incident on the BM by rotation. Moreover, an inverse design algorithm is proposed to optimize the phase distribution of PM, and Jones matrix distribution of BM. As a certificate of concept, the 3D reconfigurable vectorial holographic is validated by numerical simulation in the microwave region. Our proposed 3D reconfigurable vectorial holography scheme provides a new strategy for optical information encryption, high-capacity information storage, and reconfigurable meta-devices.
