Compact High Gain, High Isolation, and Ultra-broadband AMC-based MIMO Antenna for 5G Millimetre Wave Applications

This research paper presents high-gain and ultra-broadband multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna for 5G millimetre wave communication systems. The single unit of the MIMO attains a wideband response in a minimal footprint through a partially grounded slotted patch structure. Spatial and polarization diversity schemes are used to design a highly uncoupled four-port MIMO antenna. The gain of the four-port MIMO antenna is significantly improved (up to 3 times) by coupling it to a 14 × 12 artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) array. The designed prototype is fabricated and tested. The prototype achieves the feats of large bandwidth (22–34 GHz), high peak gain (8.54 dBi), and high isolation (<-25 dB) in a compact layout. The listed credentials are ideal for 5G communication networks and devices.
