Study on the Coordination of the Components Inside SPD Specific Disconnector

Due to the limitations in the applicability and reliability of conventional backup protective devices for Surge Protective Devices (SPDs), it is crucial to study the coordination of the specific protective devices that are developing very quickly with SPDs. This paper explores the SPD Specific Disconnector (SSD) coordination mechanism to solve the problem of mis-operation under lightning impulse. Firstly, the background significance of backup protection is introduced. Then it analyzes the characteristics and applicability of fuses and circuit breakers as traditional backup protective devices. Next, the working principle of SSDs and the characteristics of mis-operation and refuse operation are examined. To address the issue of mis-operation of SSDs, an experimental analysis of the cooperation mechanism between the electromagnetic coil and GDT is conducted. The results of this study provide an efficient and reliable improvement program for SSDs.
