Effect of Tunnel LED Skylight Illumination on Drivers’ Eye Movements and Physiological Responses

This study analyzes the dynamic change of driver's visual attention and physiological reaction with a real vehicle test. Eye movements including fixation and pupil regulation, heart rates, skin conductance, and other physiological indicators were recorded when driving through different lighting schemes of the Taihu Tunnel on the Su-xiChang South Freeway. The results suggest that landscape lighting amplifies drivers’ focus on the broader driving view, yet it may also affect pupil dilation. These findings lay the groundwork for choosing the final lighting scheme, which is crucial for improving traffic safety and refining driving experience.
