Applications and Use Cases of Digital Twins in Industry: 3D Graphics, Visualization, Modeling, Printing, and Reality Platforms

Summary

A digital twin (DT) is, fundamentally, a dynamic digital footprint of the past and present characteristics of a real‐time product or a process. It is actually a real‐world data acquisition spanning through all dimensions that helps to develop a real‐time replica of the object or process in the digital world. Therefore, it enables the manufacturers to resolve the physical issues of products accurately and hence can serve their customers in a better way. This high‐level of communication between the two worlds with respect to products or processes leads to rich and realistic models, thus providing holistic information of highly unpredictable measurements. With the support from highly advanced computing facilities and advanced algorithms with positive feedback and analysis, interactive measurements are analyzed. This in turn supports the evolution of many new industrial products and processes. This chapter is elucidating the application of DTs in sensors, semiconductors, textile designing, and smart systems.
