Steering the Beam of an End-Fire Antenna Using Near-Field Meta-Steering Method

In this article, a beam-steerable end-fire antenna based on the concept of near-field meta-steering is presented. The antenna design comprises a conical log spiral antenna, a phase correction surface, and a pair of near-field phase-gradient metasurfaces. The proposed 3D beam-scanning antenna exhibits a peak gain of 15.8 dBi and can steer the beam to any direction within a large conical region with an apex angle of 98°, with less than 1.3 dB gain variation.
