Parametric Analysis of a Double-Stator Single-Rotor Coreless Axial Flux Machine

This paper presents a parametric study of the double-stator single-rotor coreless axial flux machine, based on analytical modeling. This novel approach is based on calculating the no-load peak flux density produced by a single magnet and then assuming a cosine function of the 3D field distribution, so that the flux linkage can be calculated with integration. This permits a straightforward comparison with other machine topologies using conventional analytical equations. The model is firstly investigated for no-load conditions using the finite element method and experiments over a prototype, showing good agreement. Then a parametric study is conducted in order to validate the model in different machine designs, focusing on resultant torque density and efficiency. These performance indicators are of the same order of magnitude that previous values of some transverse flux machines and axial flux machines in the literature.
