Advanced Methodology for Magneto-Mechanical Topology Optimization of a Synchronous Reluctance Machine

This paper proposes a magneto-mechanical topology optimization (TO) for designing the rotor of a synchronous reluctance machine. The objective is to improve the mechanical strength while ensuring good magnetic performance. The two formulations are expressed in terms of energy. The magnetostatic formulation uses the magnetic energies obtained from the d-axis and q-axis to ensure a mean torque that meets specifications. Meanwhile, the mechanical formulation focuses on optimizing the structural compliance. A density-based TO solves the coupled problem with the adjoint variable method to compute the sensitivity. Moreover, the initialization of the algorithm is chosen to insure optimal design with multiple flux guides.
