A Novel PMSM Rotor Speed and Angle Estimation Based on a Multifunctional Sensor

Accurate rotor position and speed are essential for reliable and efficient electric motor control. This paper proposes a real-time algorithm at higher speeds based on a new concept of multifunctional sensors. However, accuracy, the ranges of machine rotational speed and torque, measurement noises, computation effort, and hardware size and cost are among the parameters that should be considered during the algorithm design. The proposed method consists of a sliding mode angle-tracking observer (ATO) and a neural network estimator, which enable the algorithm to operate robustly at all operating ranges of the motor. The contribution of this paper is to present a robust algorithm for estimating the rotor angle using a multifunctional sensor. Despite its low computation efforts, simulation and implementation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested algorithm.
