Multi-Objective Optimisation of Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motor for Super-Car Application

This paper presents a comprehensive approach to the design and multi-objective optimisation of a double stator axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) motor, specifically tailored for super-car applications. The process begins by extracting performance and efficiency criteria for the electric motor based on vehicle specifications and established driving cycles. An analytical design process is then conducted, considering the requirements from the driving cycle analysis. This stage determines the geometric and electromagnetic parameters used to model three e-motors with different slot and pole combinations. The performance of these motors is evaluated to ensure they meet the torque and power demands of the mission profiles. A Quasi-3D FE modeling approach is used to verify the analytical design, followed by a multi-objective optimisation process with the genetic algorithm (GA). Finally, the three optimised motors are compared based on driving cycle performance and energy consumption to select the final design.
